about

written by Melissa Greener

lyrics

Deep in the heat of a late summer mind
Waving goodbye to her lover
Can’t trust her feet lest they follow behind
In circles that spin as they hover

Flowers bloom in her kitchen
He cut them by hand for her jar
She knows that she aught to pitch’em
But she won’t go that far

Days they pass by and though cooling his cries
He wants her more with the weather
Cyclones of why harken cruel angry skies
His heart from her he cannot sever

Trees bleed life off their branches
Leaving a skeleton bone
Brittle and frozen in trances
Then covered with snow

One day the sun came and melted the cold
It lifted him out from his shadow
The bird song he heard before long in his soul
Carried his gaze out the window

He saw lovers kissing on bridges
Picniced on grass covered field
A soft breeze blew off the ridges
It warmed and it healed

Just then once again she appears at his door
Trailing her circles of weather
Inviting her in unaware of the storm
The kettle wails a whistle in fever
